Meet your photographer

Hi, I'm Tegan

I'm Tegan - a photographer, wife, mum and professional small-child wrangler. You'll never hear me say "cheese": instead we play, with silly noises for the babies, tickles and dares for the bigger kids, and me happily making a fool of myself to draw out the proper belly laughs.

Those are the frames that make you go that is SO them - the real, unposed moments I live for. I count myself lucky to have so many families come back year after year - little people I've watched grow up across more than a decade of Tegan Johnson Photography, the same heart-led work Canterbury families have trusted all along.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Read all FAQs
Which session should I choose?+

It depends on the season you're in. A Studio Mini Session is our signature - a quick, relaxed twenty minutes, perfect for a regular update as your little ones grow. Family Portraits give you more time and room, in the studio, on location or at home, for milestones worth slowing down for. And The Little Portrait Club is a lovely, accessible way to begin. Not sure? Just get in touch and I'll help you pick.

What age is best for baby photos?+

There’s no wrong time. Brand-new babies are usually loveliest in their first two to three weeks, but babies are wonderful to photograph at every stage - from those sleepy early days to sitting up, crawling, and those first wobbly steps.

What should we wear?+

Soft, neutral tones photograph beautifully in the studio - creams, oatmeal, sage, and muted earthy shades. Avoid busy prints and bright logos. I'll send a full styling guide once you book.

What if my toddler won’t smile?+

Honestly? That's my favourite kind of session. Real feelings make the best photos. We go at your child's pace, and some of the most-loved images come from the wobbles, not the posed smiles.

How often should we come in?+

As often as feels right for your family - and for many, that's often. Children change so fast that regular sessions turn single portraits into a growing collection that documents their whole childhood, season by season. Some families come in every few weeks, some a few times a year; there's no wrong rhythm, and it's exactly why so many return chapter after chapter.
